Is a style of massage and bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing trigger points in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly and fascia of the muscle tissue, rather than along the energy pathways of the body. Dr Janet Travell was the 1st to start using the phrase to describe her clinical findings. Trigger Point Therapy has also been referred to as Myofascial Trigger Points. These areas of congestion were at one time called knots and have come from and built up throughout a person’s life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. They can also come from inflammation and infection. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.
For Trigger Point therapy the client can be in gym clothes or disrobed under draping. No lotion nor oil is used. Work is done with in the clients ability to be comfortable and careful consideration is made not to send messages to the brain to resist. Resistance to therapy is ill effective and produces poor results.
